Early Signs and Symptoms

Head and neck cancers are rare and uncommon, but here are some of the signs and symptoms to look out for.

In association with

  • A hoarse voice or change in voice which doesn’t get better after 3 weeks.
  • A lump in your neck which doesn’t go away after 3 weeks.
  • A lump which you can’t explain on your lip or in your mouth.
  • A red or white patch in your mouth.
  • A mouth ulcer which doesn’t go away after 3 weeks.
  • Difficulty swallowing.
  • A sore throat which lasts for 3 weeks or more.
  • Ear pain which lasts for 3 weeks or more

 

If you are aware of any of these symptoms, particularly if you are over 50, please contact your GP surgery as soon as you can.

Please be aware that people who smoke and/or drink alcohol are at greater risk of developing head and neck cancer as they get older.
